Senegal unveiled its list for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, and Aliou Cissé took the opportunity to send out a message. The coach of the Lions of Teranga is keen to dispel any doubts about his team.

We’re not afraid. We’re going to the CAN with lots and lots of ambition. We’re African champions and, at times, people talk about our team as if we’d done nothing! I think the Senegalese team deserves a little more consideration, said the coach, in comments relayed by Afrik-Foot. If we, with everything we’ve achieved, go into this Africa Cup of Nations with no confidence in ourselves, I don’t know what African team is going to have confidence in itself. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on the coach and the players. Enhance this team, push it, that’s what we expect from you, not to install doubt.

Senegal won the previous CAN two years ago. In the Kalidou Koulibaly and his team-mates reached the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, before successfully negotiating their group in the CAN qualifiers (4 wins, 2 draws). At CAN 2024, Senegal will face Gambia, Cameroon and Guinea in Group C.
