Contrary to what some may think, the French team must not relax as they sit at the top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group with five wins from as many games. Les Bleus face the Netherlands on Friday evening (8:45pm) in Amsterdam, and a defeat could jeopardize everything. Not so much for qualification, but for the draw (on October 9) for this European Championship to be held in Germany next summer.

As for Euro 2020, UEFA takes into account the results of the teams during qualifying, and Les Bleus are virtually in the hat of the six seeds in the draw (including the Mannschaft). However, other national teams have been unstoppable since the start of the qualifiers. Scotland and Portugal have also been unstoppable, while England, Croatia, Belgium, Switzerland and Hungary are all unbeaten in their respective pools.

Basically, in the event of a poor result at the Johan Cruyff Arena, the World Cup runners-up could very well fall outside the top five teams in the qualifiers and into hat 2 of the draw. Kylian Mbappé and his team-mates remain in a strong position, as they finish their qualifying campaign against Gibraltar and Greece on November 18 and 21 respectively.

Virtual Group 1: Germany, Portugal, France, England, Belgium, Croatia.Virtual hat 2: Scotland, Hungary, Denmark, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria.
