The ranking, which had not been updated since August, takes into account the results of the Nations League group phase played since then. Having qualified for the semi-finals, Spain won five of their six matches, including two victories over Sweden (3-2, 5-3), the previous Fifa ranking leader, who dropped to second place.third place, equalling the best ranking in its history, which had been achieved several times in recent years.

Les Bleues are behind the USA (2nd) but ahead of England (4th), Sweden (5th), Germany (6th), the Netherlands (7th) and Japan (8th). Italy (14th, +3 places) also made good progress, while Brazil (11th) dropped out of the Top 10.
