Pep Guardiola’s side also failed to win at home to Crystal Palace (2-2) on Saturday afternoon, on Matchday 17. The reigning English champions are only fourth in the table, three points behind Liverpool, who take on Man United on Sunday.

City should never have let themselves be caught out in this way. Without Erling Haaland but as dominant as ever, the who equalised from the penalty spot (95th).

Meanwhile, Newcastle comfortably beat a Fulham side quickly reduced to 10 men (3-0) to move up to sixth place (and within five points of Man City). Chelsea bounced back from two defeats by beating Sheffield United (2-0), thanks to Cole Palmer (54th) and Nicolas Jackson (61st). The Blues are 10th in the table, 11 points behind the top five.
