Tour de Corse, the drama

Reserved for so-called historic cars (i.e. those put on the road between 1947 and 1990), this week’s Tour de Corse on the Isle of Beauty was marked by a horrific accident on Tuesday. A sixty-year-old man was struck by a vehicle entered in the event, and lost his life in Porto-Vecchio. Two other men in their seventies were seriously injured.

A 70-year-old man is in absolute emergency, with polytrauma, and has been evacuated by helicopter to Ajaccio hospital, and a third 73-year-old man, in relative emergency with fractures, has been evacuated, stresses the Service d√©partemental d’incendie et de secours (SDIS) de Corse-du-Sud, as relayed by Agence France Presse.

Two cars involved?

The circumstances of the tragedy remain to be determined, according to the race organizers. Witnesses report a collision between two cars to explain why the vehicle swerved into the public. The driver and co-driver werewere uninjured in the accident. Neutralized on Wednesday, the rally was due to finish on Saturday. It could be cancelled altogether in the next few hours.
