It’s an announcement that hasn’t helped the popularity of the upcoming Paris Olympics. The metro ticket, currently priced at €2.10, will rise to €4 for the duration of the Olympic period. And Valérie Pécresse, President of the Ile-de-France region, which is responsible for the public transport network, is fully behind the decision.

At the outset, we had a commitment from Cojop (the Paris Olympic organizing committee) to finance free transport for Olympic ticket holders. to modernize the network, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), of which Valérie Pécresse is also president, plans to increase the number of trains in service during the Olympic Games. This measure has a cost, estimated at 200 million euros, and Ms. Pécresse did not want to pass this burden on to regular users of the Île-de-France network. Otherwise, she would have had to increase the monthly Navigo pass by 7 euros, which would undoubtedly have provoked an outcry.

The people of Paris cannot pay for the Games, as that would make them totally unacceptable and unpopular, explains Valérie Pécresse. That’s why we’ve set up a special rate for them. This is the only way for everyone to take the Paris 2024 pass. And this €70 one-week pass is €10 a day for unlimited transport throughout the Ile de France.
